What we can help with
This site publishes court filing fees, mandatory waiting periods and residency requirements for all 51 US jurisdictions, alongside cost estimates. Most messages we receive fall into one of four categories:
- Fee corrections. Court fees change, and we would rather hear about it from you than leave a wrong number up. If you have filed recently and paid something different from what we list, tell us the state, the county, the amount and the date. We check it against the court's published schedule and update the page with the date of verification.
- Broken links or errors. Dead court links, calculation results that look wrong, pages that fail to load.
- Attorneys and mediators. If you practise family law and are willing to review our state pages for accuracy, we would like to hear from you. Reviewed pages carry the reviewer's name and bar number.
- Press and data requests. Journalists and researchers are welcome to use our filing fee data with attribution. We can supply it as a spreadsheet.
What we cannot help with
We are not a law firm and we are not attorneys. We cannot tell you whether to file, how to file, what you are entitled to, or what will happen in your case. Those questions need a licensed family law attorney in your own state — many offer free or low-cost initial consultations, and most state bar associations run a lawyer referral service.
We also cannot see or retrieve anything you entered into the calculator. Calculator inputs are processed in your browser and are not sent to us or stored.
How we handle corrections
Corrections are the most useful message we get. Our process:
- We open the official court source for the state or county in question.
- If the published fee differs from ours, we update the figure and record the date we checked it and the URL we checked it against.
- The page then shows a verification date instead of an estimate notice.
- We email you to confirm what changed.
Of 51 jurisdictions, 0 currently carry a verified filing fee with a dated source. The rest are shown as estimates and clearly labelled as such. Every reader-submitted correction moves that number.
