These terms govern your use of DivorceCostCalculators. By using this site you agree to them. Last updated August 2026.

In short: everything here is an estimate, not legal advice. You may cite our data with attribution. We are not liable for decisions you make based on what you read here.

1. Who may use this site

This site is intended for adults aged 18 or over. It provides general information about the cost of divorce in the United States and is not directed at children. If you are under 18, please do not use this site or submit any information through it.

2. What this service is

DivorceCostCalculators publishes court filing fees, waiting periods and residency requirements for US jurisdictions, together with a calculator that produces cost estimates. Access is free and no account is required.

3. Estimates, not advice

Every figure on this site is an estimate for general informational purposes. Nothing here is legal, financial or tax advice, and using this site — including running the calculator, reading a state page or contacting us — does not create an attorney-client relationship or any professional relationship.

We are not a law firm and the people who produce this site are not attorneys. Court fees change without notice and law varies by state and county. Always confirm the current fee with the official court before filing, and consult a licensed family law attorney in your jurisdiction for advice about your circumstances. 4. No warranty

This site and its tools are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be available without interruption, free of errors, or that any figure displayed is current.

5. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, DivorceCostCalculators, its owners and contributors are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, this site — including direct, indirect, incidental, consequential and punitive loss, lost savings, additional legal costs, or an adverse outcome in any proceeding.

You are responsible for verifying any figure before acting on it and for obtaining professional advice suited to your situation.

6. How you may use our content

This section replaces a narrower earlier version. We want our data cited, so the permissions below are deliberately broad.

Citation licence

You may quote, reproduce and republish our filing fee data, comparison tables and statistics — including for commercial purposes such as news reporting, academic research and professional publications — provided that you:

attribute the data to DivorceCostCalculators;
include a working link to the page you took it from;
state the date you accessed it, since figures are updated; and
do not present unverified estimates as verified figures, or otherwise misrepresent what the data shows.

Journalists and researchers who need the underlying data as a spreadsheet can ask us and we will send it. Our sources page carries a suggested citation format.

What is not permitted

Wholesale copying of our written articles or page text, as distinct from the data.
Automated scraping at a rate that burdens our servers, or that circumvents technical restrictions.
Republishing our content in a way that presents it as your own work.
Using our content to train a commercial machine learning model without permission.
Presenting our estimates as legal advice, as quotes, or as figures endorsed by any court or attorney.

7. Ownership

Court filing fees and statutory requirements are public facts and nobody owns them. Our compilation of that data, our written articles, our calculator, our design and our branding are ours and are protected by copyright and other applicable rights.

8. What you send us

When you send us a correction, a message or a fee report, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use that information to correct and improve the site, including publishing the corrected figure. We do not publish your name or contact details without asking you first.

You confirm that anything you send us is accurate to the best of your knowledge and that you have the right to send it. Please do not send confidential documents or details of your case — we do not need them, and this is not a secure channel.

9. Email

If you subscribe, you consent to receive the resource you requested and occasional related updates. Subscription uses double opt-in, so nothing is sent until you confirm. You can unsubscribe at any time and it takes effect immediately. See our privacy policy.

10. Advertising and third-party links

We display advertising and, in some cases, receive compensation for referrals to legal service providers. This is disclosed and does not influence the figures we publish. We link to official court sites and other external resources for convenience; we do not control them, are not responsible for their content, and a link is not an endorsement.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless DivorceCostCalculators, its owners and contributors from any claim or demand, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your misuse of this site, your breach of these terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.

12. Availability and changes

We may modify, suspend or discontinue any part of this site at any time without notice. We may also update these terms; the "last updated" date above will change and continued use after that constitutes acceptance. We may restrict access where use breaches these terms or burdens our infrastructure.

13. Governing law

The governing jurisdiction for these terms has not yet been specified. Until it is, nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the mandatory consumer protection law of your own country or state of residence.

Build notice: set $governingLaw at the top of pages/terms.php. This is worth asking a lawyer about rather than guessing — you operate from outside the US while serving a US audience, so the choice has real consequences.

14. Severability

If any provision of these terms is held unenforceable, that provision will be limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions will stay in full force.
